The term “Pop-Art” was invented by Lawrence Alloway in 1955. It is an art movement in the 1960s in the US and UK. At that time it is considered as the first Pop-Modernist movement which mean the medium is as important as the message.
Pop-Art usually characterised by Bold, Simple, everyday imagery( comics, photos, paintings, advertisements, etc.)and Vibrant Block colours. It’s reflect the social issues that take place around them. Pop-up is called the challenge to the traditions of fine art.
Banksy think by recreating the masterpiece from the other artists can give the artworks a new life, a morden feeling. In this painting, Banksy repaint the famous painting of Monet, “Water lily pond”. He add some modern element into the painting, such as the shopping chart. He thinks by giving the painting a new life, the viewers can have more connection between the painting and themselves.
